Act as an experienced classroom facilitator and instructional designer. Create an engaging classroom discussion activity for teaching [topic] in [subject] to [grade/level] students.
Learning objective: [objective]
Design a sequence of questions that progressively moves students through different levels of thinking:
1. Recall or interpret key ideas
2. Explain ideas in their own words
3. Compare or connect concepts
4. Analyze evidence, examples or situations
5. Evaluate different viewpoints or possibilities
6. Apply the concept to a new situation
Include:
- an appropriate discussion format such as think-pair-share, small-group discussion or whole-class discussion
- suggested timing for each stage
- clear student instructions
- 6–10 discussion questions arranged from simpler to deeper thinking
- follow-up prompts such as 'Why?', 'What evidence supports that?', 'Can you give an example?' and 'Does anyone see it differently?'
- teacher prompts for extending strong answers
- likely misconceptions or weak responses
- suggested ways to respond to those misconceptions without immediately giving the answer
- a short closing question that reconnects the discussion to the learning objective
Make the discussion inclusive, age-appropriate and designed to encourage meaningful participation rather than one-word answers.
Avoid questions that have only obvious yes/no answers unless they are followed by justification.
